REYES, Joshua T. 3A7 Cyberspace used to be a term known only to some science fiction readers. It originated in William Gibson's science fiction novel, “Neuromancer”. Now cyberspace, the internet, and homepage are terms that have sneaked into newspaper comic strips, business pages, and sometimes front-page news stories. When a new phenomenon rises on the internet, questions arise that seem so important or exciting that researchers might, in their eagerness, focus more on those questions than on the fact that there are people on the other side of their data. Often researchers look to the ethical principles of their disciplines when seeking supervision. But in considering what constitutes ethical cyberspace research, it is essential to understand that it will go well beyond social science researchers, the activities beyond gathering data, and the implications past anyone's research method. An ethical statement from nearly any field may help guide cyberspace research because
