It’s no secret that car accidents kill thousands of people each year. As alarming as these statistics are, it is not feasible in today’s society to prevent the usage of automobiles. In that case, how do we prevent the numerous unnecessary casualties that occur on the road year after year? It is essential that we study the causes of these accidents and discover ways of eliminating those aspects. Although it is obvious that drinking and driving is a big issue, many studies have revealed that cell phone usage at the wheel is just as perilous. Furthermore, “a study released in April 2006 found that almost 80 percent of crashes and 65 percent of near-crashes involved some form of driver inattention within three seconds of the event” (III 1). Cell phones are undoubtedly a cause of such driver inattention. With the modern cell phone there are seemingly endless boundaries of what you can accomplish. With many of these devices one can easily check e-mail, surf the web, take and send pictures, play games, text message, and of course, carry out verbal
