The Declaration of Independence was written in 1776 and proclaimed the original thirteen colonies independence from Great Britain and explained their reasoning. The U.S Constitution was written in 1787 and originally had a preamble and seven articles. Each of the articles set a foundation for our government. The biggest significance with the Declaration of Independence was it set the foundation for how citizens could and should stand up for themselves against government if they felt it was necessary. No one had stood up to the King before, so this was the first time citizens had felt empowered enough to stand up to the King and claim their independence from Britain, altering the previously accepted concept of government. The biggest significance with the US Constitution was that it set up the foundation for our government today. US Citizens were used to the tyranny of having a King, and the constitution altered their way of thinking by providing
