NUTRITION FINAL EXAM STUDY GUIDE 6 Classes of Nutrients Carbohydrates Proteins Lipids Vitamins Minerals Water Macronutrient: a nutrient that is needed in relatively large amounts in the diet. -Carbohydrates : provide 4 kcal/g of energy -Proteins: 4 kcal/g -Lipids: 9 kcal/g -Water Micronutrient: a nutrient that is needed in relatively small amounts in the diet. -Vitamins -Minerals Essential Nutrient : a substance that must be obtained in the diet, because the body either cannot make it or cannot make adequate amounts of it. Nonessential Nutrient : one that the body can make in sufficient quantity if lacking in the diet. Diet-Related diseases can be caused by different factors….
