Unformatted text preview: Jose Alvarez SPA 2612 Name: Jose Alvarez Class: SPA 2612 – Tu/Th ---- 11:30 am – 1:30 pm Where the Interaction was observed: Fashion Square Mall, the Deaf dinner Who (more or less) was present: Samuel, Patricia, Eva, myself, among others. Learner involvement (i.e. passive, active, learner-initiated, etc.): active Briefly (2-3 paragraphs), what transpired, i.e. gist of conversation, new signs, clear indication that the encounter was sustained for at least 20 minutes, etc.: Basically what happened was that I went to the dinner at the mall and got there about 7:20. At first I was a bit apprehensive because I wasn’t sure how to approach anyone, or who was Deaf and who was hearing for that matter. Then I ran into my professor, who was talking to some people and then I was invited to sit down and join the conversation. The elderly gentleman, who I later learned was named Samuel, was very friendly and patient with me and the other ASL students. He would have each of us ask him a question which he would answer.
