Sheet1 Page 1 Short Answer: Explain the Rock Problem Can God create a rock, that even God cannot lift? This challenges God's ability to be all powerful. If he can create a rock that he can not lift, then he is flawed because the "perfect" being cannot lift it. If he cannot create a rock that he cannot lift, then he is flawed because he lacks the ability to create something. It is a contradiction in the all powerful quality given to God in that he is not perfect. List and briefly explain the logical fallacy in the reasoning: There is no proof that Locke did not have a cat so therefore he did have a cat. Answer: The fallacy is appeal to ignorance. You cannot use the fact that something In your own words, describe the Birthday Fallacy. Answer: As human beings, we all have birthdays. Therefore, according to the Teleological Argument, we must all have the same birthday. It is recorded that upon hearing Berkeley's theory of immaterialism, Dr. Samuel Johnson exclaimed "I refute it thus!" and kicked a rock on the ground. Thinking as an immaterialist, explain how this does nothing to refute the theory. As Berkeley dictated, the only things you know with certainty are minds and perceptions. The pain in his foot was caused by what he perceived to be a rock consisting of 'matter.' However, since perceptions are conjured by the mind, the stone existed as nothing more than an idea in his mind.
