Unformatted text preview: ntion Sensors for accident prevention are used to protect access to danger zones where power driven equipment is used, e.g. presses, automatic metal-cutting and shaping tools, cutters, winding machines, foundries, robots, rollers and stirrers. Sensors which are used for the purpose of accident prevention must meet the national safety regulations as laid down by individual regulatory bodies. Depending on these regulations, sensors for accident protection come under the category of contactless protective devices, which can mean through-beam sensors or systems connected to these, such as light curtains or light grids. Protection devices must give a switching command if parts of the body enter the protected area. The purpose of the switching command is to prevent or interrupt a potentially dangerous movement.
