Pontiacs Rebellion : Pontiac, a native American, and his allies launched attacks on Americans in
the Appalachian area and killed 2500. Made the English realize that the Indians were still a
threat.
Sugar Act: (1764) George Grenville said it would make sense for the colonies to pay for the
protection that was being given to them. Put taxes on every sugar product that was shipped into
the colonies. (rum etc) To raise $, they upped taxes, colonists didn’t like this bc there was no
representation for the colonies in parliament.
Proclamation of 1763: prohibits settlers from moving across the line of proclamation.
The Stamp Act : (1765) required british subjects in the colonies to pay a tax on anything made
from paper. Replaced the sugar act. Taxation without representation.
Stamp Act congress: an all colonial meeting that takes place in New York, 9 colonies send
delegates to discuss the taxes, they create the stamp act congress. They got the stamp act
repealed.
Virtual representation: the idea that the American colonies are a part of the british. Therefore
they are represented.
Loyal 9 and sons of liberty: the 9 delegates and other members of the stamp act congress that
got the stamp act repealed.
Republicanism: the belief that many Americans held, that the people who were elected have the
right to tax or raise prices because they have the consent of the people. That their own officials
can tax them.
British Perceptions after French & Indian War- british didn’t appreciate the Americans war effort or the $ they
put into the war. They believed that the French did it all without the Americans help and didn’t realize how much the
Americans really did to help the war.
American Expectations after French & Indian War- while the britains were there the Americans felt like they
were treated unfairly, after the French and Indian war and after the French were forced out (kicked off the
continent), the Americans felt like they would be treated better and they would get more land.
British advantages during the am rev:
• the population is much larger than the American colonies about 11mil.
• Possess the worlds largest navy.
• they use loyals again the American pats.

• They have the native Americans.
British disadvantages during the am rev. :
• Over estimate # of loyalists
• they have empires to maintain, must defend their entire empire. They’re
overextended.
• They have to hire german soldiers who are undisciplined.
• They don’t have a strategy.
•  The british people are not united behind the war. They don’t have the stomach
for a long and expensive war. The war before this increased the taxes a lot. They
didn’t want that to happen again. if The Americas can just keep going the british
will just give up and say it’s not worth it.
