Today in the United States, education is far from perfect. Although some people aretrying to fix education in are country, it’s taking a very long time. Standardized testing, like theSAT and the ACT, has been a leading factor on whether or not students applying to colleges areable to get in. Many people wonder, is standardized testing effective?Standardized testing mightseem like they are helping colleges by viewing how well students can do under pressure, butstandardized testing can not measure a student knowledge. By using standardized testing as oneof the main ways to accept a student into college is both lazy and prejudice to family that can'tafford a tutor.The ACT and the SAT are not measuring students knowledge. Today some colleges arerealizing this. Over three hundred colleges are test optional. Former Dean of Admissions forBates College, William Hiss did a study which tracked the grades and graduation rates ofstudents who submitted their test results against those who didn't. There was a insignificantdifference between the “submitters” and “non-submitters” apart. The difference in theirgraduation rates was only .6 percent. So why do most schools weight them so heavily?
