1Erin Wiley English 102 February 11, 2008 Dr. Renee Love Making Transitions Through Life Experiences One’s innocence can be lost through a variety of experiences, like a young boy learning that quitting his job doesn’t always get the attention of girls, landing a job that wasn’t what you expected, or the death of a very close friend. Sammy learned that “showing out” in front of girls can cost a high price. By quitting his job, Sammy was hoping to gain the attention of a few young girls that walked into his store. But for Andy a young girl from the movie The Devil Wears Prada , learns that people shouldn’t judge another by their appearances. When Andy gets a job for the high fashion magazine Runway , she realizes that she works for a “devil” in heels. While I didn’t lose my job, I did lose a very close friend shortly before graduation. Her name was Chelsea, and she was just 17 years old. It was a very hard situation to deal with and to recover from. For everyone though, I believe that the loss of innocence is a disappointing gain of knowledge or a transition that a person must go through to comprehend reality. This knowledge or transition is what helps us to grow and learn from. In the short story “A&P”, Sammy is a teenage boy who works as a cashier at his local A&P store. Sammy realizes that he would rather create his own path then follow the typical everyday flow. This was due to three young girls that walked into the store on a hot day in nothing but baiting suits. The girls showed him that he could live his life the way he wanted to. Queenie which seemed to be the leader of the other two girls went against the normal flow of the
