“Fog” By Carl SandBurg•This tiny poem of only 21 words, is full of depth and beauty. Fog is personified in the image of a cat. They both have the same characteristics such as unexpected silence, and quietly arriving without warning. As a cat soundlessly creeps on a window ledge, so does fog roll in unexpectedly over the city.The fog comeson little cat feet.It sits lookingover harbor and cityon silent haunchesand then moves on.
“Fog” By: Carl SandBurg•How does the poem relate to the 20thcentury ? Back in the 20thcentury, it was very difficult to accurately predict the weather. Without the technology present today, people were often kept in the dark, and surprised by weather events through out the days. Sandburg gives weather a personality of its own, just as each little cat acts a different way. Cities in that time were loud, dirty, and harsh, but a quiet foggy night while the city slept gives off a peaceful image. Cats
