Final Examination Checklist Scantron Test Spring 2007 Part I: Short Answer Questions (30%) Be able to answer any of the following questions (bring a blue book): 1. Know the names of each author ( Cicero, Catullus, Caesar, Horace, Vergil, and Ovid) , what he wrote, and the general themes that each writes about. 2. Be able to point out Greek influences on the authors and their works that we have read. 3. Describe how Cicero gained influence in Rome as a lawyer (See lecture notes / introductory essay on Cicero’s orations, pp. 100-102 in the Classics in Translation reader). 4. Discuss the important political and social themes discussed in class that run through the Aeneid . Part II: Scantron (70%) The final will consist of 70 scantron questions (green scantron). Approximately 20 questions will be drawn from the material that the mid-term covered. (Look at the Midterm Checklist at bottom of this sheet.) The remaining 50 questions will cover the material from the second half of the course: Cicero, Catullus, Caesar, Horace, Vergil, and Ovid. The scantron questions will come from lecture, readings, introductions to readings, and the following questions and identifications. QUESTIONS 1. Know the mythological background to the Aeneid , story line and key characters / peoples / places of the Aeneid , as well as what I talked about in class concerning modern scholarship on Vergil (See checklist below). 2.
