Classical Conditioning in the Real World Geraldine had an automobile accident on the corner of 32 nd Street and Cherry Avenue. Whenever she approaches the intersection now, she begins to feel uncomfortable; her heart begins to beat faster, she gets butterflies in her stomach, and her palms become sweaty. Did some of her autonomic responses become classically conditioned on the day of the accident? What was the conditioned stimulus? The conditioned stimulus is the Intersection.
What was the conditioned response? The conditioned response is anxiety about the intersection. Will she get over her response to the intersection? Eventually after she passes through the intersection safely a few times she will get over it.
