Communication Channels Reference Guide Name: Mary Smith Mass Media Mass media is when communication is transmitted to many people through print or electronic media (Anonymous, 2012). Mass media is also known as mass communication. A communicator would use mass communication to deliver a message to a large audience. Communicating breaking news through print or electronic media to the mass population is one-way mass communication is used. A communicator uses mass media to make sure the information they are wanting to communicate reaches a large audience. An example of the use of a mass media channel would be the use of social media to alert a large population about a storm coming. Common Types 1. Print: With the rise in technological advancements the print media is not as popular as it used to be. Print media is the use of information printed on paper. a. Books b. Newspapers c. Magazines 2. Television: A mass media medium that wirelessly transmits audio and visual signals instantly (Anonymous, 2012). This comes in the forms of TV shows, News, and Movies.
