Juthi Saha Ms. Gebhart WGS 201 November 6, 2019 Miss Representation This documentary gave me a lot of insight into how women view themselves and the backlash that the media has against women. The documentary addresses important issues such as women who have no voice in today's society because of the relentless focus on their body and body parts, which constantly dehumanizes them and sends out the message that in their complexity, they do not matter as a whole. I remember the statistic they gave about how 78% of women hate their bodies when they are 15 (7:14). This reminded me of the body image lecture we had when we discussed how body image affects males and females most during puberty. It is a vulnerable age where a human is developing internally and externally. As learned during lecture, the “ideal body image” includes thinness, model height, and prestige (Stoehr, A. 2019). These are qualities that the media has shown and has become a part of society’s social constructionism of the genders.
