His father, King Laius, had learned from an oracle that he would perish in the hands of his son, and thus he had ordered his wife to kill Oedipus when he was only an infant. Therefore, Oedipus was raised by a servant since his mother refused to kill him. He later learned that he was not the biological son of King Polybus; Thus, he consulted an oracle that foretold him he would kill his father and end up marrying his mother. He left Corinth in search of his biological parents. On the way, he met his father, King Laius, whereby they quarreled, and Oedipus killed his father, fulfilling the oracle's prophecy.
