Van Es - 1 - MY WRITING STYLE I have to admit that I was skeptical coming in during the fall. I was going to a school 700 miles from home and passed up my dream to go to the University of Notre Dame so I could have a guaranteed spot on a golf team at the Division I level. Despite these fctors and other, much more minute doubts, I have had an excellent first semester. Perhaps the most useful class, as far as subject matter and knowledge learned, was my English 1201 course. I feel that I was able to improve my writing abilities substantially. A few areas were influenced more than others. After reviewing my essays and research paper, it appears that my thesis writing abilities have developed the most. I always felt as though I was good at writing theses; however, this class was very good for this area of my writing. It is evident that my thesis writing skills improved greatly from the first few papers. This is the second thesis I wrote this semester. “Vince demonstrates that the key to success in any endeavor is to have a strong passion for it” (Passion 1). This thesis was very poor. While I did communicate my main point, I did not outline my argument at all. The only clue to the content of my essay is the name “Vince.” This essay was about
