Ashley Vaughan EDI 15A Dr. Piro I think that Dewey, Piaget, Vygotsky, and Erikson all have important theories and ideas that still relate to the twenty first century classroom. I think that many teachers still teach using their theories, whether they realize it or not. But these philosophers have some great theories and ideas that really changes the way the teacher presents information to the student. Like Dewey, his great ideas include that kids are not blank slates they came with, among other things, four impulses: to construct, to inquire or question, to communicate or be social and to be artistic. He also believes that the teacher needs to see the world as both child and adult see it. Piaget’s great ideas include disequilibrium, to equilibrium to re-equilibrium approach of learning and his theory that knowledge is not copied, but constructed. Unformatted text preview: critical thinking. One of Vygotsky’s great theories is his theory about how learning is from the outside in. It is important to realize that people learn from their outside environments. And last but not least, one of Erikson’s great theories is his 8 stages of development. It is important to look at the success of each stage because that can be a vital key to the person’s overall success. According to Erikson, depending on how he person resolves each crisis will influence the success of the next developmental level. I think it is important for each teacher to be familiar with all of these theories in educational psychology. But I do not feel that it is necessary for them to be fully trained in each field before they enter a classroom. Each student will respond differently to each theories procedure, so the teacher should adjust their teaching methods each year....
