Kaehr 1 Zech Kaehr Mrs. Sambas CCP I Period 1 11 December 2018 The Growing Need for Guns in America “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed”(Amendment II). These are the words of our founding fathers for the need for firearms in our country to protect our rights as citizens. In the past few centuries the words “shall not be infringed” have not been taken literally in the past centuries. Politicians have been taking away from our rights to make the American people safer, which in some ways have made it even worse for Americans. The American people’s right to bear arms should not be infringed upon, because gun laws affect the law-abiding citizens' ability to defended one's self and one's country. Gun control has not prohibited the access of guns to criminals, the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun and the benefits of a trained civilian militia when forming a well-regulated militia. The fundamentals of gun safety should be taught at a young age through all children to know how to handle a firearm properly. Guns will not be going away in American culture they are a part of what makes Americans free and give the people a way to defend against tyranny and foreign invasion. For that very reason instead of banning our rights, we should train future generations on how to properly handle guns. From Paul Revere’s ride at the start of the American Revolution to World War Two, the threat of American citizens with firearms preventing an invasion on mainland America. Going back to World War Two, a disarmed populace can not defend themselves against a tyrant, with Adolf Hitler in control of Germany disarmed the
Kaehr 2 population so they could not revolt against Hitler’s decisions he made with the Holocaust. In that scenario, the Jewish people were defenseless against the Nazi power having to follow their control. If the German civilians were to have their firearms still, it would be much harder if not impossible for the Nazi regime to take total control of the government and country leading the world into war. With the second amendment in the bill of rights, it gives the American people the right to prevent or over through a tyrannical government with the right to own firearms to take back the power in the case of an event like Nazi Germany may happen in America.
