Deviant Careers: Six themes in Literature on Deviant Careers o Entering Deviance (How and Why they enter) This is the most interest in this topic because they want to know so that they can figure out how to prevent it They want to create polices that will prevent deviance from the first steps It is easy data to get When you find a group of deviants, they all have a story on how they got into deviance o Training and socialization This one is the least written about it This is because… o Loner deviants don’t have training and socialization o Collogues and peers get socialization They hang around with other deviants like themselves so they are part of a deviant subculture and help others help in how to do their deviance Peers don’t necessarily work together o There is more training at the crew and formal organizational level because they work with each other and depend on each other These types of deviance are hard to track down and get information from These groups are very hidden and protected Its fairly dangerous research They aren’t as willing to give up information o How does their experience evolve over time? It is important to understand this when dealing with deviance
