OUTLINE STRUCTURE SPECIFIC PURPOSE: To inform my audience about General Electric. INTRODUCTION: “I find my greatest pleasure, and so my reward, in the work that precedes what the world calls success.” This was said by Thomas Edison inventor, businessman, and founder of Edison General Electric Company in 1878. This philosophy can also be applied to its vastly successful present day counterpart General Electric. CENTRAL IDEA: How GE has become a part of every American’s lifestyle with their widespread involvement in various outlets of commercial and industrial production. TRANSITION: Starting off with GE’s rich corporate history, I can tell you about how they went from one man’s idea to the powerful conglomerate that we all know today. BODY: I. A. 1. In 1876, Thomas Edison started a new laboratory in Menlo Park, New Jersey where he would soon invent the highly acclaimed incandescent bulb. With the birth of this new, ground-breaking technology, he combined all of his previous businesses into the singular Edison General Electric Company. 2. Though their beginnings may have been humble, GE has since proven capable of continuing Edison’s original motivations to even greater proportions. From light bulbs to blockbusters, GE has branched out to become one of the most successful companies throughout the world. More attention is being paid to the results of their
