AMBULATORY EMERGENCY CARE CLINIC 3 Introduction As the name implies advanced nursing practice nurses refers to a registered nurse of practitioners who are equipped with expert knowledge and complex skills in clinical competencies, evidence based decision-making skills to expand their scope of practice and medical contribution. From a simplistic observation ambulatory Care Clinic is a modern day evolved type of clinical services where by care services are administered without the intention of overnight admission. In essence, ambulatory emergency is, the patients are admitted, diagnosed, treated, and discharged the same day without overnight stays. Generally, an advanced practiced nurse in the ambulatory Emergency Care Clinic is tasked with the following roles; development of different diagnoses, therapeutic plan of care orders, participate in research studies, patient cares, consultations and referrals, family counseling, and educations, among others (Barnes, 2015). This critical research paper will seek to evaluate the various challenges an benefits befitting an advanced practice nurse in my area of specialization in preparation to my APRN status. It will explore my field roles and contribution in the healthcare setting in regards to improving care delivery and patient healthcare outcomes. The Ambulatory Emergency Care Clinic Anatomy and Roles The Ambulatory Emergency Care Clinic strives to offer support services and consultancy needed by the patient released within the same day of care delivery. As a consult led unit, the emergency response clinic that is composed interprofessional team units. Various professionals that contribute to this holistic team of care unit include the GP, GP trainee, a duty consultant, an
AMBULATORY EMERGENCY CARE CLINIC 4 ANP nurse, F-1 Junior Doctor, Charge nurse, ANP nurse, a senior staff nurse, a receptionist, and nursing associate practitioner. This unit caters for three other main groups of patients :namely; those who are strong and can be directed from the AE, those released from Medical Assessment Unit or the Ambulatory or Emergency(AE) requiring examination and more diagnosis for referrals on need basis and finally the General practioners (GP) RE, the GP referrals for timely diagnosis and same day treatments. To access the services of the unit, GP referral, a 999 customer in need call as well as call though the call acceptance consultant can be used. In this unit, only the patients who do not require oxygen and with a NEWS score of 3 or below are accepted in the in the desk. However, given the frequent understaffing and emergency room strain one must acknowledge the difficulties experienced by the team in dispensing their duties. It is common to find members of
