26 February 2008 La Familia Family is often the most important aspect of a person’s life. Family is a place for one to go to when in need of comfort. Family is a role-model for each individual member; it is a common place filled with love and affection. In Dorothy and Thomas Hoobler’s La Familia , different families’ everyday lives are exposed as common themes are revealed throughout the unique families. One can compare these families’ everyday lives to his or her own life as every family is different in its own way. A very popular theme among the families in this text, as well as many other families in the world, is the male-dominance carried out by the father of the family. In Hoobler’s La Familia (2007), this father-dominance is shown in Ramiro Quintero’s excerpt when he says, “The father was the breadwinner, the father was in charge of the whole house, what he said went, and the mother went along with him.” This presence of male-dominance is comparable in other excerpts such as Jacinta Carranza’s excerpt
