Last Name 1 28 January 2008 Corporate Illinois in Urbana-Champaign We at Illinois serve the state, the nation, and the world by creating knowledge, preparing students for lives of impact, and addressing critical societal needs through the transfer and application of knowledge. The University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign claims its “mission” to be the very impressive and complex statement declared in the above sentence. One may question if that is the only mission the university is trying to achieve, or if there is an entirely different goal for the school. That other goal is expressed in Liza Featherstone’s, “Student Activists Versus the Corporate University.” Featherstone brings up numerous, valid points about the ties between universities and powerful corporations that seem to be taking over America.
