Joe Giannini August 28, 2007 Enterprise Borders Activity 1- Understanding the Environments of Organization Abbott Laboratories 1. Competition- Abbott Labs top competitors are mostly in the Pharmaceutical Manufacturers industry but the also compete in other industries like Dietary Supplementing Beverages and Health Care Products. The top competitors for Abbott Labs are three companies by the names of Merck, Roche, and Sanofi- Aventis. Merck actually has handed over the rights of the drug Niaspan to Abbott labs for the distribution in North America. The reason for this is because of an agreement by Merck with another company named Kos for the distribution of Niaspan worldwide excluding North America and Japan. Merck sales of Niaspan in 2006 were 7 million EUR. 2. Globalization- Abbot Labs is influenced greatly by global competition. One of is major competitors is a company passed in Germany, but not only that the market for Abbot Labs Pharmaceutical and Health products is global. Abbott
