Teaching in Wild Meerkats The basic thesis and general argument of Alex Thorton and Katherine McAuliffe, the authors of the article, is that meerkats are taught at a young age how to interact with their prey by “teacher meerkats” and that this learning contributes to growing skepticism that humans are the only ones who interact in this way. Well, I originally thought that the article, from the cover and such, would be about mother meerkats and the bond between them or something of the sort. One conclusion that can be drawn from the graphs is that as the pups got older, helpers, well, help less. They feed the meerkat pups less disabled and dead, and more live prey in experimental situations. As far as the other graphs go, it can be determined from graph D that as the pup grows older, the proportion of prey found by the pups increases exponentially. One of the observations found in the study was that after a helper gave a pup a food item, especially rare ones, it stayed there to monitor and “nudge” the food item in
