Add a second 10-mL portion of ice-cold deionized water to the reaction flask and stir 1-2 minutes longer. Carefully transfer the reaction to a 125-mL Erlenmeyer flask. Place this flask in the ice bath in the crystallizing dish and re-establish vigorous stirring without splashing. Use 10-mL portions of ice-cold deionized water to complete the transfer, pausing 1-2 minutes between portions so that the reaction stays ice-cold even as the strong acids are diluted. After the transfer to the 125-mL flask is complete, add enough ice-cold deionized water to reach a final volume of 75 mL. Allow the mixture to stir on as you prepare the vacuum filtration apparatus.
