What attempts were made beforehand to prevent war? There were quite a few causes regarding the civil war, though most of them had been regarding slavery. Essentially the southern parts of the United States of America had wanted slavery to continue as it was while on the other hand the northern parts of the United States of America wanted slavery to be abolished completely so that everyone regardless of their race would have equal rights. The reason that the southern states had been so against pity abolishment of slavery was due to the fact that most business in the southern states depended on agriculture (farming) and at that point in time most people relied on free slave labor, essentially the reason that the South was so against the abolishment of slaves was because it meant a loss of money for them (PBS, 2020). This war had the potential to tear the United States right in half which is why the president at that point in time Abraham Lincoln, did try to take preemptive action to prevent the war from happening. He himself did not recognize the Confederate States of America as an independent organization of the United States itself. Ultimately he had been unsuccessful in preventing the civil war from happening, a large reason that he was unsuccessful was that those who were a part of the Confederate States of America did not recognize him as their president due to the fact that when he himself came president he made a promise to end slavery in all of the United States of America.
