Determination of the Solubility Product Constant for Cu(IO 3 ) 2 Purpose: The purpose of experiment 17 is to determine the solubility constant for the sparingly soluble substance, Cu(IO 3 ) 2 , using spectrophotometric and titrimetric techniques. Procedure: Preparation of the calibration curve for Cu +2 : 1.) Normalize and fill two burets with 0.025M CuSO 4 and DI water. 2.) Using five clean, dry, and labeled test tubes, prepare and mix the solutions according to the Lab Report Sheet, use a transfer pipette to make the solutions. Calibrate the Spectrophotometer and Create a Calibration Curve: 1.) Normalize the spectrophotometric curve with one of the five solutions, and read the absorbance at 610nm. 2.) Normalize and read the absorbencies of the four remaining solutions, record the results, and calculate the moles using the given equation. 3.) Calculate the concentrations using the given formula. Record in the lab report sheet. 4.) Plot the calibration curve of absorbance vs. molar concentrations.
