ANTH 326 11/28/07 Incas and puma imagery o Evident in boulders, stones Cusco was laid out between two rivers: TINKUY o Incas conceived their  city  as being divided into 2 halves HANAN – Upper half More prestige, not as dire as it sounds  HURIN – lower half o Inca  empire  was divided into 4 quarters Tahuantinsuyu: land of the four quarters Chinchaysuya – peruvian coast (extends all the way to Ecuador) Cuntisuya – smallerst of quarters; southwest;  Antisuya Collasuyu Incas conceived of the four quarters coming together at on point along a  road Separate governor for each quarter o Colcampata Traditionally believed to be the palace of Manco Capac, the founding  Inca. However, Brian Bauer says it was the palace of the conquest period  Incas: Manco Inca, Paullu Inca, and Carlos Inca. o
