Model Fiction Summary Summary of “Marigolds” By: Eugenia Collier The short story Marigolds by Eugenia Collier is about a young girl named Lizabeth and the way her family lives through the poverty and financial struggles in her life. The young girl, Lizabeth started to develop as an adult towards the end of the short story. Living in Maryland was Lizabeth and her little brother, Joey, they both lived a very sympathetic, yet simplistic life. The children’s parents, the mother and father, both lived in a run-down house in a tiny, impoverished community. The mother was busy, taking up a good amount of time from her day with her job. The father, unemployed and still seeking a job. One summer's day, Lizabeth, Joey, and a group of kids from the community were completely bored and wanted to do something different; interesting. So, simply enough, Lizabeth and the kids went down to see one of the elder’s, Miss Lottie. Miss Lottie, she was an older woman who made stories about her being the kid’s witch.
