After reading the chapter on the challenges of peacetime, I strongly believe Americans fears of the Soviet Union or the Communism were justified during the cold war. One reason or justification was the Americans were afraid of the quick replacement of the joy at the end of the world war II with the fear of the conflict with the Soviet Union. The fear came about with who will be the world dominance? The United States or the Soviet Union. With the United States fears of losing the world dominancy to Soviet Union, they immediately got involved assisting the countries that after destroyed after the world war II. Another example of the United States fears was in August 1949, for instance, the Soviet Union exploded its first atomic bomb, and they were declared victory of the Chinese civil war and the established the people’s Republic of China. In fear of the communists conquering the world, the United States entered the conflict on the side of South Korea in 1950.
