Millen 1 LaDarius Millen Ms. Smith ENGL 2202-105 4 December 2011 The Story of Women Gloria Naylor wrote the Women of Brewster Place in 1982. Born in 1950 in New York, Naylor begin receiving attention from the public eye around the same time as Toni Morrison and Alice Walker (2584). The textbook only consists of chapter two, but reading this one chapter will make a reader seek out the book to read. There are two attractive characteristics of tis chapter: the metaphors that are used and the drama that goes on. These two characteristics keep the attention of the reader and cause an increase in interest of the story. Naylor metaphors are realistic and can be applied to real life. By making the story more interesting, Naylor uses metaphors to describe some characters and their actions throughout the chapter. These metaphors are intriguing because the vividly describe a character or an action. For example, Naylor labels the rumors that go around Brewster Place as a smell. He describes it as “It had first spread through the block like a
