1. Identify how the development of nursing diagnosis and nursing therapeutic taxonomies contribute to advancing nursing knowledge. Identify how the support for evidence-based practice is an indication of progress in the nursing discipline.Nursing diagnosis is used generally through all of healthcare. These diagnoses’ gives autonomy for nurses to follow and practice without specific guidelines. Even thou these diagnosis are general, they can be tailored to fit the needs of each patient. The founding thought was structuralized in the early 1970s when the need arose and a group of like-minded individuals formed a committee. It was identified that there was a need for universal language to describe nursing actions. This is how the development of Nursing Diagnoses came to light, “developing ataxonomic structure for their classification. Based on the initial success with the development ofnursing diagnoses, the conference group became the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association (NANDA)” (Warren & Hoskins, 1990).With the development of NADA, the concept was then put into motion and continues to be tested. This concept is known as Evidence-based practice (EBP). Mackey (2017) describes EBP as an approach that enlightens nursing decisions and encompasses the latest evidence, clinical approach and routine assessment(s). Nursing theorist use EBP accompanied with nursing diagnosis’ to improve patient outcomes and health care in general every day. Without these two facets going hand in hand it there would be major set-backs in safe delivery.
