Jan 30 Out of This Furnace Questions 1. Andrew Carnegie- re-establish the 12 hr work day for steel mills 2. Kratcha lost all his money on the way over to America b/c he bought wine and whisky and therefore had to walk to his destination (1863-1867) Emancipation Proclamation (1863)- Promised that as Northern troops moved south, slaves would be freed I. 1863 - Lincoln gave the Emancipation Proclamation and launched his version of reconstruction which appeared to contradict the Emancipation Proclamation - The 10% plan - If 10% of Southern whites pledge allegiance to the North, they would basically be pardoned and given back all their land. Had nothing to do with blacks though - The idea behind the 10% plan was to weaken the Confederacy - Freed black leaders complained to D.C. to the radical republicans - They were told the purpose of the war was for freedom of slaves, yet the first act had nothing to do with them - The radical republicans were upset as well as previously freed blacks - In response to the 10% plan, the Radical Republicans pass the Wade-
