3D FabricationBy: Diego MunozIn recent years, the world has been advancing its technologies in ways never thoughtpossible. One of those technologies that has been expanded in the last few decades is 3Dfabrication. 3D fabrication has many different terms such as additive manufacturing. It is mostlyknown by many as 3D printing. Since its conception in the 1980s by inventor Chuck Hull, 3Dprinting has impacted the world in an abundance of ways. It has benefited many of themodern-day industries in many positive ways and has made work for some much more efficientand convenient.3D fabrication has more influences than most think. One that most are familiar withhowever is how it has influenced the entertainment industry. If you’ve watched some “behind thescenes” footage of a movie with a lot of CGI, then most likely you have seen the work of 3Dfabrication. 3D fabrication allows for filmmakers to make 3D objects that they can use in theirfilms for things that are unrealistic or just impossible to obtain for films. Prior to the existence ofgood 3D printers, filmmakers had to make props and fake suits for people to wear that doesn’tlook very realistic and is almost comical for today’s standards. One good example of this is theoriginal “King Kong” movie made in 1933. In this film, King Kong was just a toy that was puton small, fake settings to look real. In new films such as the new Star Wars movies, many of theprops and creatures shown on the screen are thanks to 3D fabrication. The suits the stormtrooperswears all the way to the cute droids are all made from 3D fabrication and further edited in studios
