2An Advocacy Campaign for Lowering Prescription Drug CostsThe purpose of this paper is to present the need for lowering prescription drug costs. It isa known fact that increases in prescription drug prices have been one of the major reasonsMedicare beneficiaries forego recommended treatment (AMA, 2019).The paper will alsopresent a grid with a prescription drug costs bill, H.R. 987, and address the opponents of thelegislation for lowering prescription drug costs.A key limitation to healthcare in the U.S. is the high costs of prescription drugs. In thearticle byKesselheim,Avorn, &Sarpatwari, they note that U.S spends more onprescription drugs per capita compared to all other countries: $858 on the average, comparedwith an average of $400 for 19 other industrialized nations” (2016). Past and present of the U.S.have made the agenda to reduce the prescription drug cost a priority; they addressed the agendadifferently by working with U.S Congress to enact laws and by issuing Executive orders toaddress the problem. As noted in the article by Bunis Dena of AARP (2019), an average of 28percent of pre-Medicare-age adults state that they do not use their medications as prescribed dueto the high cost of the medications.
