Sally Chan 02/05/13 My trip to the planetarium was filled with moments of laughter and knowledge. The host talked about various topics of astronomy, mainly about planets, planetary motion, sun motion, and the moon. The show started off with explanations of certain terms such as “ecliptic”, “meridian”, “zenith”, etc. After getting a basis in astronomy, the host continued onto showing us the constellations and the sun’s path in the sky, namely the ecliptic. We traced the sun’s path across the sky with time and seasons as factor. We noticed that, at our latitude of 40 degrees, the highest the sun will go is 50 degrees in the summer excluding the factor of the summer solstice. It will go up and the down the meridian in a straight line but it will never go past 50 degrees. Constellations were put into the picture here and there mainly because the constellations of the zodiac line up perfectly with the ecliptic. Here we learned that we get our zodiac signs by figuring out which constellation the sun was in when we were born. We talked about Moon
