Thang Nguyen Phil 102B Professor Lopez November 29 th , 2011 Week 13 Journal: Watchmen Rorschach is a very interesting character in the movie. As Walter, a normal civilian, he realizes that the world has problems. That is why he feels the need to become a masked vigilante, to carry out punishments to the individuals/criminals who he thinks deserve to be punished. From a philosophical stand point, it is almost absolute that he is a deontologist. “Never compromise”, that saying really defines Rorschach as a character. He is always compelled to do things that he claims righteous. Even when world peace is achieved (through lies), he still feels the need to tell the truth, regardless of the fact that that truth may lead to Armageddon. He would rather die than live and not telling the truth. One can feel sympathetic to Rorschach, because when world peace is built on the foundation of a lie, it will not last for long. At the end, it is implied that his journal is going to be read by the news company and truths will be learned. When peace is handed to people (or anything), it is meaningless, because it is not
