Trends in International Students in Colorado During the 2010-2011 academic year, the number of international students in Colorado increased 10.1% over the previous academic year, according to the Institute of International Education’s annual report on international academic mobility. Colorado institutions enrolled 7,688 international students during this period. The state’s rate of increase was double the 5% increase in international students enrolled in U.S. higher education institutions as a whole. International students’ expenditures in Colorado totaled an estimated $235 million for 2010-2011. The leading countries of origin for international students in Colorado for 2010-2011 were China with 1,653 students (21.5% of total); Saudi Arabia with 1,122 students (14.6%); India with 753 students (9.8%), and Taiwan, with 269 students (3.5%).
