declined for five years, has now stabilized; domestic leisure travel will grow 1.5% in 2012 and 1.8% in 2013; and international travel will continue to
increase at a 3-4% pace. Tourism in Colorado
Tourism in Colorado is closely tied to national
trends and will continue to mirror them in 2012
as cautious Colorado consumers consider their
options. Some encouraging developments are:
• Icelandair will begin year-round, nonstop service from Denver to Reykjavik in May 2012. The
new service will connect Denver to more than
20 destinations in Scandinavia, the United Kingdom, and Europe, and is expected to bring more
than $28 million in annual economic impact
to the state. Icelandair is the first new carrier to
initiate transatlantic service at Denver International Airport (DIA) in more than a decade.
• A new cultural attraction, the Clyfford Still
Museum, held its grand opening ceremony on
November 18, 2011, and is now open to art
followers around the globe. Designed by Brad
