Colorado recorded 4,855 foreclosure filings in September 2011 or the 10th-highest rate of foreclosure filings per housing unit, despite a 17% decline from August to September. The states with the highest foreclosure rates are Nevada, California, and Arizona. Third quarter 2011 foreclosure filings across the state were down almost 21% from Q3 2010. According to the latest Colorado Division of Housing data (covering 12 urban counties in the state), Colorado reported a 29% decline in foreclosure filings in August 2011 compared to the same month a year earlier. The Metro Denver area has also welcomed significantly decreased foreclosure activity so far in 2011. In fact, by midyear, foreclosure activity was at its lowest level in Metro Denver since 2005, according to the Division of Housing.
