The M&A activity in the agency world has slowed to a crawl. Sellers are holding off as the value of their agency has dropped due to the P&C soft market and healthcare reform looming on the horizon. The effect of these factors on employment has been dramatic. Fewer insurance company and agency jobs are available than in the past. Some companies in the industry have laid off employees or closed unproductive regional offices. Others have invoked hiring freezes, but very few have been able to boast about creating jobs.
