The industry as a whole is highly fragmented, and local demand for these services is closely tied to disposable income and the population’s demographics and growth. While a growing and aging population provides an expanding customer base for many of these services, the high costs associated with business activities leave them vulnerable to volatility in consumer disposable income. In addition, dry cleaning and laundry, personal care services, and personal services face increasing competition from convenient and frugal do-it-yourself products. As disposable income begins to rebound, service providers will have to continuously cultivate visibility and effective marketing strategies to be competitive.
