Kevin Pintauro April 1, 2008 Understandings and Jesus in the Gospel of Mark There is a particular way that Jesus is portrayed in the Gospel of Mark: The Son of Man. Jesus is repeatedly referred to by this title. He is especially well-liked amongst the people of Galilee of his time and performs several miracles for them. My fundamental understandings of Jesus in The Gospels prior to this class were elementary and had only a limited and actual understanding of Jesus. I understood the general synopsis: the “good news”, the life of Jesus and his disciples, the miracles and the crucifixion and the resurrection. But I could only recite the stories to myself, if I had been asked to “explain” what they all meant I would have been at a loss for words. I now know why it is necessary to know the historical context of “first century Jesus” to truly read the Gospel. When one understands the historical context of writing they are better able to “interpret” the message of what is being said; as not compared to my first essay. I now
