Pollution, Health, and Avoidance Behavior: Evidence From the Ports of Los Angeles This research question is trying to determine the effects of air pollution and ozone on health. Their methods are particularly important because they are trying to factor out avoidance behavior, which is always an immense cost with externalities such as this one. The authors argue that when people are aware of an increased risk of exposure to certain pollution in the air, these citizens may remain indoors and avoid the pollution. This is very inefficient because it keeps people from being productive, but it also causes a hindrance with research studies that try to measure the full effects of air pollution. This study might finally tell us just how much we, as a society, should care about healthy air quality. The initial question is difficult to answer because most studies do not factor in these avoidance behaviors. However, this study has overcome that obstacle. However,
