Hedda Gabler “Hedda Gabler” by Henrik Ibsen has a theme of manipulation defined as the ability to control other people in a clever way. After reading the play and watching the movie, I believe that the movie version helps me better understand the deeper meaning of the play. The movie version made me clearly see the characteristics of Hedda Gabler, her expressions, positioning, hearing the tone of characters, body language and the way she manipulated others. Therefore, the theme of the play is much easier to understand by watching the movie than by reading the book. The play is easy to understand, however, the movie clearly shows the theme of manipulation through, characters and eventually, the storyline.
