Earthquakes 22/01/2008 14:13:00 Alfred Wegner – 1930s (Father of Plate Tectonics) Came up with the idea of continental drift o The idea that continents have moved around throughout time Sea floor spreading Supercontinent of pangea Upper part – Laurasia Tethys seaway in the middle Lower party – Gondwanaland Location of Carbinfous ice sheets (30 mil years ago) Make no sense on todays map Make perfect sense if continents were assembled into Pangea Location of 200 MY old deserts Form perfectly at expected latitudes in pangea Don’t make sense today Migration of Species How did species get from one continent to the other? Maybe at one time they were all connected
