Carl Miller English 102 10/9/07 V for Vendetta “Remember; remember the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot. I know of no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot” (V). V for Vendetta is a movie written by Andy and Larry Wachowski, and directed by James McTeigue in 2005. Some of the key actors in this movie are Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving and Stephen Rea. It is a movie that takes place in a dystopian England future. There are many social injustices in the movie such as police corruption, government blackmailing and censorship. But these social issues can be summed into corruption and domination of citizens by the English totalitarian government. V for Vendetta is a movie that projects the future world falls into ruin. England becomes the only country not completely devastated by this worldwide situation, because the English people chose to bring a dictatorship upon itself to keep itself isolated from the rest of the failing world around it. The background story is that this government was beneficial for a time, but now is struggling to stay in complete control. The extreme corruption and workings of the projected future English government are portrayed into this film. And cause the viewer to sympathize with the terrorist/revolutionary V who seeks to destroy the parliament building in order to bring an idea that “people should not be afraid of their government, government should be afraid
