Speech 12-220 Recycling Outline I. Introduction a. “Recycling may be the most wasteful activity in modern America. It’s a waste of time and money, and a waste of natural resources.” – New York Times ‘94 b. The purpose of my speech is to persuade you to not recycle. c. I’m not an expert on recycling but after extensive research and use of credible sources, I make a sound argument. d. I don’t want you to recycle first off because it hurts the environment, secondly because it’s expensive, and lastly because it takes away from landfill ideas. II. Body a. We’re grown up to believe that recycling is the best thing you can do for mother earth. I remember assemblies in elementary school, reduce – reuse – recycle! We’re told that recycling saves trees and improves the environment when it actually does the exact opposite. i. The EPA states that last year we recycled 51m tons of paper. They also note that for every ton we save 17 trees. So last year we saved 867million trees. Not really. 1.
